Welcome!

Welcome all!
I just wanted to formally welcome you to the charity anthology site for "In Vein". I am taking submissions of vampire stories, no erotica or porn but romance and mild heat allowed. Absolutely not a child's book. There are no lengths minimums but the stories must be about vampires. I'm hoping to have all submissions in by August 1, 2013 as I'm going to publish the book out on Halloween 2013. Each participant of the book will get a detailed summary of the funds given to the charity on a quarterly basis. Join in. Have some fun! Can't wait to read all your great stories!
Keep Writing!

  5. I am interested too and will start thinking of ideas.

One word of advice, though. I would set some definite guidelines down on paper. You say no word count min which is fine (because it leaves people open to submit things like flash fiction and drabbles and even poetry) but I would set a max as otherwise you will get some people submitting works of 10K or more which can fill your book really quickly. Writers tend to prefer definitive boundaries for word count and it will make it easier for you in the long run when it comes to putting your final book together. I'd also give some guidance on formatting (both manuscript format and file format) as that can also be a pain for a publisher. Essentially, a good set of guidelines will make your life a hell of a lot easier :)

Also, are you planning to do only ebook or is there a plan for a paperback edition too?

Besides sexual content, should we try to keep this on the lighter side as far as violence and content?

    Thanks,

    1. Hello Donna,
My only request is to not make it sexually explicit. Violence and horror are welcome just keep the basic rules of publishers (no rape, incest, beastiality, etc). Otherwise, go for it! Thanks for participating!

  10. How long can these short stories be length wise? I mean I'm on page 27, and it'll probably be betwen page thirty and fifty when finished. Is that too long? I could cut it down if it is.

    1. Hello,
I would say about 30 pages or so would be the best idea but if you can't pare it down without compromising the story, then that's fine too. In otherwords, try to pare it down but don't worry if you can't. Fifty pages is the absolute limit though. Thanks for participating!

  13. Great idea for a great cause. I'm definitely interested. Will you be including editing of the submissions or do we need to have them edited first before submitting? Thanks!

    1. I have another quick question... will us authors keep full rights of the stories we write or will there be a certain time frame where we are not able to publish our own stories independently? I would love to support this charity, but would also like the freedom to publish my story independently if I feel the need to. Thanks!

    2. Rene,
You would absolutely keep all the rights to your story. My only request, is that in the acknowledgements or somewhere in your book, you mention this project. Thanks for the great question!
